Lubrication Performance of Sunflower Oil Reinforced with Halloysite Clay Nanotubes (HNT) as Lubricant Additives

This study evaluates the tribological performance of nanolubricants a vegetable oil (sunflower oil) reinforced with different concentrations environmentally-friendly nanoparticles halloysite clay nanotubes (HNTs). Tribological characterization was performed under conditions to determine its effect on nanolubricants’ and optimal HNT concentration. The performances low high contact pressures were analyzed block-on-ring tribometer following ASTM G-077-05 standard procedure. extreme pressure (EP) properties determined T-02 four-ball tribotester according ITeE-PIB Polish method for testing lubricants scuffing conditions. In addition, lubrication newly-developed oil-based evaluated in an industrial-type application through tapping torque test. results indicated that at 1.5 wt.% HNTs/sunflower provided best behavior by decreasing coefficient friction (COF) wear volume loss 29 70%, respectively. For pressures, 0.05 HNTs lowered COF 55% 56%, load-carrying capacity increased 141% 0.10 compared sunflower oil. A efficiency obtained can prolong tool life machining process. Therefore, this suggests could be used as green industrial applications.
